Be Careful What You Wish For...

Hi folks...it's Friday and the weather has taken a "be careful what you wish for" turn for the worse in my neck of the woods...sizzling temperatures at the start of the week followed by cloudy skies and monsoon like thunderstorms...in other words...a typical British Summer.
With outdoor pursuits out of the question...I've been keeping myself busy in the cubbyhole organising and re-organising the crafty stuff while I wait rather impatiently I have to say for the return of the hunky joiner and deciding what goes where has been a bit of a "moving everything around umpteen times" marathon but I think I've finally cracked it...
the "can never have enough" canvas cupboard
my journals all in one place
 yummy Idea-ology within easy reach...
and the all-important clean up supplies...
I've also had a shuffle around in the bookcases...adding extra shelves to eliminate some of the dead space...

and moved the MDF Man drawer units...don't they look smart with their new paint overcoat and cute wooden knobs...
the perfect place to store replacement Mini Foam Pads, Idea-ology trims and the Idea-ology items which are too big to fit in my other storage...
and woohoo I'm excited...I've been making space in the ink storage unit for the new release of Distress Oxide inks...YES...a little birdie tells me they are coming SOON...
In the meantime I'm sharing a little sneaky peek of my DT project for Monday's Challenge over at Simon Says Stamp...
and don't forget...you still have time to join in the fun at this week's "Let's Take A Vacation" challenge with the chance to win a $50 spending spree at Simon Says Stamp online store...you gotta be in it to win it. Have a great weekend everyone whatever the weather and I'll see you all on Monday.

It's Yellow...Very Yellow

Hi folks...yellow is not a colour I use very often and that's probably because I find it very difficult to photograph but I am hopelessly addicted to Distress Oxide Fossilized Amber and was determined to use it on this card...
influenced perhaps by that big ball of yellow in the sky which despite the forecast is still shining down on us along with a welcome cooling breeze which makes the Furry Boy happy and if he's happy...everyone's happy.
I've been itching to use the beautiful Circular Lace stencil and Wonky Rectangles set of dies from CHERISHED...the latest release of stamps...dies and stencils from Simon Says Stamp.
I die cut the largest rectangle from Ranger Distress Watercolor Card and coloured with Fossilized Amber using a blending tool. I then applied Ranger Transparent Matte Texture Paste through the stencil and sprinkled with Ranger Antiquities Frosted Crystal and Super Fine White Embossing Powder. Once the paste was dry I heat set the embossing powder
I coloured white card with Distress Oxide Fossilized Amber and die cut "LOVE" using the outline die and used the detailed die to cut  "LOVE" 3 times from white card layering to create dimension. I stamped the sentiment from Simon Says Stamp Floral Bliss with Black Archival.
I created the flowers with the die cut waste from the letters "L" adding Pretty Pink Posh 3mm Sparkling Clear Sequins...
Today is the Summer Solstice...the longest day of the year and it will certainly feel like it after being bounced out of bed at 5.00am by the wonky Furry Alarm Clock again. Have a great day whatever you're doing...I'm betwixt and between a potter in the garden or cracking on with the DT projects but I think that maybe the make hay while the sun shines option will win the day.

Hanging Out With The Cool Cats...

Hi Everyone...woohoo Summer arrived in the UK over the weekend...blue skies...sizzling sunshine and scorching temperatures...the summer T-shirts were finally been unearthed from the back of the wardrobe and the cubbyhole crew abandoned ship and headed outdoors. And I can't believe I'm saying this but it was too hot to even have a little potter in the garden...I'm not one to sit and twiddle my fingers and the Furry Boy wasn't too happy either...unfortunately his super thick insulated onsie doesn't come with a zip and he just couldn't find that elusive cool shady spot to partake of his favourite occupation...snoozing. So we decided to head back to the "cool and airy until about 3pm" cubbyhole to hang out with the coolest CATS on the block and magic up another Hipster card for the Sizzix/Tim Holtz "Get Hip for Summer Challenge"

lots of stamping, masking and Distress Oxide fun...

And it just goes to show...you should be careful what you wish for because it looks like we'll be returning to the good old unpredictable  British "don't go out without an umbrella" kind of weather soon but hey it's not all bad news...there's the consolation of new goodies from Simon Says Stamp to play with...
and if it goes according to plan...I'll be sharing with you all soon.

Simon Says...Let's Take A Vacation

Hi Everyone...welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog...thank you for joining us for last week's challenge...we hope you can join us this week too because...

and the theme for this week is...
LET'S TAKE A VACATION
I created a Mini Suitcase for a rather Dapper gentleman to take on his travels with lots of room inside to store mementoes of his vacation.
I've always wanted to make one but paper engineering is not one of my talents so I hopped over to YouTube and found a fabulous tutorial HERE from Alexandra and decided to give it a go. I did however alter the size of the album so I'm going to share the measurements and scoring details with you.
You will need 2 pieces of Kraft Card
cut to 5" x 9.5" and scored at 1.1/2"...3.5"...7.5"
cut to 5" x  6" and scored at 4"
I applied Ranger Wonder tape to the section on the right hand side of the larger piece of Kraft card which is the bottom of the box and fixed the two pieces together...
and then covered each section with papers from Tim Holtz Dapper Paper Stash Pad cut slightly smaller to leave a border around the edge of each section...
and repeated on the inside leaving the section where the two pieces of card were joined together (the bottom of the box) blank because this is where the hidden binding section will be fixed.
I cut a strip of Kraft card to measure 7.3/4" x  4.5" and scored on the long side at
1/4"... 3/4"...1.1/4"...1.5"...2"...2.5"... 2.3/4"...3.1/4"...3.3/4"
4"...4.5"...5"...5.1/4"...5.3/4"...6.1/4"...6.5"...7"...7.5"
creating an accordion fold strip
I applied glue to the inside of the 1/2" strips and pinched them together until the glue set...this is what it looks like from underneath.  I was struggling to get my head around this bit of the process but once I applied Wonder tape and Multi Medium Matte to the underside...
and fixed it in place...it made sense...you have 6 - 1/2" either side mountains with 1/4" valleys in between and a 1/4" section at each end...simples...
I cut 6 pieces of Kraft card cut to 3.3/4" x 10" scored on the long side at 4.3/4" and 9.5" and folded to create the pockets.
covered both sides with paper...applied Muti Medium Matte to both sides of each mountain section...
and fixed the pockets in place...
you can personalise your album by adding extra pockets on the covers...create tags and inserts to pop into the pockets but let's move on to decorating the outside of the suitcase album. I created the straps and handles from strips of Idea-ology Substrate Sheets and added buckles and brads.
I stamped Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Label Frames with Walnut Stain Distress Oxide on to Mixed Media Heavystock and overstamped with images from Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Correspondence with Fired Brick and Peeled Paint Distress Oxides...
I die cut Sizzix/Tim Holtz Dapper from Mixed Media Heavystock and coloured with Distress Oxides and Distress Markers...
and fixed to the front of the suitcase with 3D foam pads...
added Idea-ology Travel Design Tape and Idea-ology Lost and Found Salvage Stickers to the front of the suitcase...
and also the back and finished off by adding faux stitching to the straps and handles...
